When the votiing machines became computerized, it became easy to rig them in order to control the voting process and predetermine the outcome. Here is the court testimony of a computer programmer who was asked by the Speaker of the House in Florida to come up with a program to rig the voting machines.

I think it is time the American people demand a return to paper votes that can be recounted properly. Remember what Lenin said years ago, to the effect that: "I don't mind having free elections, as long as I get to count the votes."
